Economics of Computer Network Overheads

A 1 GB file downloaded from the Internet will have around ~ 53 MB of additional (invisible) data
This data is not part of the actual file, nor we can see it anywhere once the download is completed.
Simply put, this additional data is called communication overhead, an essential component which contains all control information required for the file to travel the vast computer networks.

So what's the concern? Especially given the fast Internet connections and unlimited data plans we have?

Well, what if the download file size is 10 GB? Now the new overhead unavoidably increases to not less than ~534 MB.

Telnet Protocol Analysis

Telnet is a well know protocol known to every IT Administrator. Besides being a clear-text protocol where it sends all of its communications in plain text, Telnet is interesting in the way it communicates.

Every character we type on the terminal is sent in a single IP Packet, right, a single packet is used for every character.

A quick look at Wireshark capture shows the below.
  • The capture is for a Telnet login from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.1
  • fake/user (userid/password)

Internet of Things, DDoS attacks and Blackout in Murica!

On Oct 21st Internet has experienced a huge outage like never before, when it happened I was browsing Internet as usual and was totally unaware of the million cries overseas, most of the people in US suffered Internet blackout and fortunately some went outside of their caves and socialized with other human beings, except the SJWs who got PTSD over the whole matter. Good or bad? I don’t know, nor I cared because my Internet was working just fine. The point is, majority of the sites were not accessible/extremely slow in eastern part of the US for hours! That was a big deal, Libya has the worst Internet Speed in the entire galaxy besides their ongoing crisis, that didn’t stop ahmed from downloading Mia Khalifa’s pictures, does it matter? No, because nobody gives a fuck about Ahmed or his country, fortunately India is at

Himalayan Ride 2016 – Complete Itinerary

My first successfully completed very long ride, and it was to Himalayas! I was very sceptic about its completion right from the begining but fortunately everything went cool and I am back in one piece! Considering that 90 % of the ride was done in solo :)

Planned the trip in 5 stages, of which I cancelled stage 4 due to many reasons. The main stages, Stage 2 and 3 were completed, I am happy with that. I am listing the entire route details, I am not going to explain about the places/experiences and you won’t see the photos either, I’ll be covering them in different posts. This is just about the route(s) I’ve took.

AR and VR, who is winning?

While everyone is enjoying Pokemon Go I am enjoying how Augmented Reality is taking over Virtual Reality, though VR is highly potential it has the drawback of limitation to physical world.

A VR represents it's own virtual world (confined space) rather than the real world surrounding us. Where as in an AR, it actual creates a creative augmented world (virtual layer) on top of our real world, there by increasing our mobility and interactions from the confined worlds of VR.

We can't fix your rear tyre puncture!

That's the usual response from all motorcycle mechanics, they are the ones who are "experts" with every bike out there except Royal Enfields with disk breaks on rear tyres.

So far I had 5 punctures on my Thunderbird 500, including one today, those MRF Zappers are made only for tarmac, could't handle even a toothpick on even short rides on off-roads, JK.

The headache is not with the punctures, but with the mechanics refusing to fix them, of course the RE service center guys don't refuse but we

Is marriage a Social Obligation?

I am 28 and single, I enjoy my life by travelling solo, doing photography, reading books and last but not least, my job.

Why are you still single? Aren’t you planning for kids? House? Your biological clock is ticking!

These are the kind of shit I am hearing these days, I really don’t understand why people think marriage is so relevant for a “happy life”. For me, it’s just an option out of million other trivial options I have. I really don’t feel it should be a compulsion.

Foggy and Energetic ride from Tirupati to Bengaluru

I started to Tirupati on Jan 8th morning around 7:45 a.m, ride was good, and that route is routine for me. Road was not good after Chittoor due to the recent rains but they fixed it this time, for the most part. Reached home around 12:45 p.m with a long break in between just to relax.

Usual stuff at home and I rode to Nellor on 9th Jan ~140 km from Tirupati, it was a single road till Naidupeta and then it's the NH 5 till Nellor, beautiful tarmac. Reason was to meet a friend and after that I came back to Tirupati on the same day evening. The road passes next to several farm fields
